Our Education & Literacy Program is the cornerstone of everything we do at Hearts Beyond Bars.

We partner with certified teachers and educational NGOs to bring formal learning into correctional facilities across six Nigerian states. Programs run twice weekly and cover:

■ Adult literacy and numeracy (for those who never completed primary school)
■ Secondary school completion and WAEC preparation
■ Computer literacy and digital skills
■ Library access and reading programs

Research consistently shows that inmates who participate in education programs are 43% less likely to reoffend. For every naira invested in prison education, an estimated ₦7 is saved in future incarceration costs.

To date, our education program has reached over 3,847 participants. 214 have passed WAEC examinations. 17 are currently enrolled in distance-learning degree programs.

Education does not just change minds — it changes trajectories.
