Nigeria’s prison system holds thousands of pre-trial detainees — people who have been charged but never convicted, waiting months or years for hearings that are repeatedly postponed.

Our Legal Aid Program exists to break that cycle.

We maintain a team of salaried paralegal officers and relationships with a network of over 40 pro-bono lawyers who take on cases referred through our intake system. Our services include:

■ Free legal consultation and case assessment
■ Court representation for pre-trial detainees
■ Filing for bail, accelerated hearing, and case dismissal
■ Review of wrongful conviction cases
■ Know-Your-Rights workshops inside facilities

In 2023, we handled 847 cases. 71% resulted in release, acquittal, or significantly reduced sentences.
